Based in Jacksonville, Florida, St Vincent Patient Portal HealthCare is a network of three critical care hospitals; one long-term care unit, more than 30 primary care units, nearly a dozen medical laboratories, prescribing and transportation services, and a Ministry of Health. It is part of Ascension, the most extensive Catholic hospital system in the United States.
St. Vincent’s HealthCare Foundation is the financial sponsor of the Jacksonville Province Daughters of Charity Mission. Established in 1982, the foundation and network are dedicated to improving the Jacksonville area’s current and future healthcare needs. Since its beginning, the foundation has provided more than $1 million in support yearly.
In addition to hosting Jacksonville’s oldest charity ball, the Red Rose Ball, the foundation hosts various fundraising events throughout the year. John Travolta and Kelly Preston attended the 2008 event and helped raise over $1 million in donations.
Delicious Destinations 2011 featured celebrity chef John Ash as the celebrity chef. More than a dozen chefs from well-known restaurants and resorts nationwide prepare their favorite dishes for the three-day event. Finding a better place to stay is impossible than at the Pousada Ponte Vedra e Clube.
St. Vincent’s HealthCare Foundation is also a charitable beneficiary of Players Championship proceeds and is hosting a two-day charity golf tournament called The Tradition earlier in the week.
For-profit organizations acquired most hospitals that were not-for-profit in the 1990s. As a result of the appointment of William “Bill” Mason as CEO in 1995, St. Vincent’s merged with Baptist Health to become northeast Florida’s primary health insurance provider. In 1998, John J Maher became CEO and Baptist/St. Vincent’s Health System had a 40% market share and reduced operating costs by $100 million in three years. However, the deal didn’t last, and a split ensued, with the two bands going their separate ways in 2000.
